The little girl whose smile lit up every room she entered

On January 10, 2020, three‑year‑old Cherish Keria Pearson disappeared from her home in Birmingham, Alabama. She was tiny, bright‑eyed, and full of the kind of joy that makes adults soften and children gravitate toward her. Her family called her “Keria,” a name that fit her perfectly, soft, sweet, and full of light. That morning, her mother woke up to a quiet house. Too quiet. Cherish was gone.

A Little Girl With a Big Personality
Cherish was:
  • playful
  • affectionate
  • curious
  • the kind of child who loved to dance and giggle
  • deeply attached to her family

She was the youngest in the home, the baby everyone protected, the one who brought laughter into the room just by being herself. Her disappearance shattered that world.

The Morning She Vanished
Cherish was last seen inside her home on 29th Street Southwest. There were no signs of forced entry. No broken windows. No open doors. No clear explanation for how a three‑year‑old could simply vanish.
Her family searched the house. The yard. The neighborhood. Every place a toddler might wander.
But Cherish was nowhere.

The Search That Followed
Law enforcement and volunteers combed the area. Dogs were brought in. Crews searched nearby woods and waterways. Neighbors were questioned. Flyers went up. And yet, no trace of Cherish was ever found. Her disappearance remains one of Birmingham’s most heartbreaking unsolved cases.

The Questions That Still Linger
There are details about that morning that have never been fully explained. Moments that don’t quite add up. Possibilities that were explored but never confirmed. And like so many cases involving very young children, the truth feels close, painfully close, yet still out of reach. Cherish was three. Three. A child who should have been safe in her own home.

Why Her Story Matters
Cherish’s disappearance is not just a mystery; it is a reminder of how fragile safety can be, how quickly a family’s world can change, and how deeply a community can feel the loss of a child they never even met.
Her name deserves to be spoken. Her story deserves to be remembered. Her family deserves answers.

Holding Space for Cherish
This post is simply a moment to honor Cherish Keria Pearson, a daughter, a sister, a little girl whose life mattered. There are other stories like hers. Stories that deserve the same care, the same attention, the same light. And in time, I’ll be sharing more of them.

For now, we remember Cherish, the little girl who should have grown up surrounded by the love she brought into the world.
