The toddler who vanished from a crowded bowling alley

On the evening of January 23, 1999, two‑year‑old Teekah Latres Lewis was playing near the arcade area of New Frontier Lanes in Tacoma, Washington. The bowling alley was packed, families laughing, balls rolling, machines buzzing, children running back and forth under the glow of neon lights.
In the middle of all that noise and movement, Teekah disappeared. One moment she was there, toddling around the video games. The next, she was gone.

A Little Girl Full of Joy

Teekah was:
  • tiny, bright, and full of energy
  • a child who loved to dance and giggle
  • deeply attached to her mother and siblings
  • the kind of toddler who lit up every room she entered

She was the baby of the family, the one everyone watched over, the one whose laughter made the whole house feel warm. Her disappearance shattered that world.

The Night Everything Changed

Teekah’s family had taken her to the bowling alley for a fun night out. Her mother was only a few feet away when she realized she couldn’t see her daughter. Panic spread quickly. The family searched the arcade. The bathrooms. Under tables. Behind machines. Every corner of the building. But Teekah was nowhere. Witnesses later reported seeing a man speeding out of the parking lot in a maroon Pontiac Grand Am, a detail that has haunted the case for decades.

The Search That Never Stopped

Police, volunteers, and community members searched for days. Flyers went up. Tips came in. Leads were followed. But no trace of Teekah was ever found. Her mother, Theresa, has never stopped fighting for answers. She has kept Teekah’s memory alive through interviews, vigils, and tireless advocacy, refusing to let her daughter’s story fade into silence.

The Questions That Still Remain

How does a toddler vanish from a crowded public place without anyone noticing? How does a child disappear in seconds, in front of dozens of people, with no clear explanation? Those questions have lingered for twenty‑five years. And the truth, whatever it is, has never been brought into the light.

Why Her Story Matters

Teekah’s disappearance is not just a mystery; it is a wound. A wound for her family, her community, and everyone who has followed her story over the years.
She deserved:
  • safety
  • urgency
  • answers
  • justice

Her family deserved a world that looked harder, sooner, longer.

Holding Space for Teekah

This post is simply a moment to honor Teekah Latres Lewis, a daughter, a sister, a little girl whose life mattered. There are other stories like hers: stories that deserve the same care, the same attention, the same light. And in time, I’ll be sharing more of them.

For now, we remember Teekah, the toddler who should have grown up surrounded by the love she brought into the world.
